Dalsa IPD vision appliancesAnnouncing the "new look" VA40-41, VA50-51 and VA61

Dalsa has announced their plan to move away from the "silver" style VA enclosure to a newer style "blue" enclosure and use the opportunity to add more features to their VA40-41, VA50-51and VA61 suite of vision appliances.

While the size, performance and connector specifications have remained unchanged, an additional feature has been added to the software specification.

Improvements incorporated in the new-look VA40-41, VA50-51and VA61 vision appliances include:
*** New image restore feature in the software specification
*** Thermal superiority
*** More efficient and quieter exhaust fan
*** Improved internal assembly
*** Protection on VA40E display against transients
*** Protected disk partition for image restore feature
*** New DIN bracket supported on either axis

How does this change impact on me?
Dalsa anticipates your questions:

1 Will the new system plug into an existing application without changes?   Yes.
2 Can I continue to use my in-house silver box?   Yes. Performance-wise, they are identical
3 Do I have to revalidate my system?   Not normally. Strictly controlled systems such as those requiring government or other authority approval, may require revalidation.
4 If I want the silver design rather than the blue one, will I be accommodated?   Dalsa recommends that you transition to the newer design. However, they have a limited inventory of silver enclosures that can satisfy this demand on a first-come-first-served basis.

What is Dalsa's Vision Appliance Suite?
Dalsa’s Vision Appliances suite are compact machine-vision controllers for multiple camera-automated inspection applications.

Originally dubbed "smart cameras", these products are designed to offer flexibility, speed and choice of camera to match the performance needs of end users and system integrators. Dalsa has chosen to call these Smart camera products 'appliances' as they are simple to use and can be used, easily, by both new and experienced operators.

The suite consists of three units, the VA40-41, VA50-51 and VA61. All have a small footprint, will accept multiple camera inputs and are robust, embedded computers designed specifically for machine vision.

What are the vision capabilities for these appliances?

About: Camera resolution on the VA4X can be easily substituted to match changing application needs.

Each controller is equipped with industrial grade I/O that are broken out to removable screw terminal connectors.

Serial communication options include RS-232, USB and Ethernet for connecting into the factory network.

All physical connections are located on the rear panel, with status lights available on the front.
About: The VA5X are compact machine vision controllers for automated optical inspections that use line scan camera technology.

These products have been designed for applications requiring cylindrical unwrapping of parts or large format imaging of moving surfaces.

The VA5X supports a range of camera resolutions from 1024 to 8096 pixels and provides synchronization timing between the cameras and the moving part or surface.

Communication options include standard serial and Ethernet interfaces for communicating with complementary devices or connecting into the factory environment.
About: The VA61 is a compact vision controller that interfaces with DALSA gigabit Ethernet
cameras and 3rd party equipment to provide industrial quality control solutions.

Compatible with the full range of DALSA Genie and Spyder3 cameras, the VA61 offers a cost-effective and expandable performance platform for a multitude of inspection tasks.

A benefit of gigabit Ethernet cameras is that they can be positioned up to 100 meters from the controller allowing easier installation and providing better protection of costly
control components in harsh environments.

Another benefit is camera expandability. The VA61 camera ports can be configured to interface up to 4 or 8 cameras through Ethernet switches to provide extremely cost-effective solutions.
