Now, an even-smarter, self-contained camera-and-software combo offer a single-point solution

Combining the robustness of Teledyne DALSA's highly-integrated BOA Smart Camera with the flexibility of Teledyne DALSA's advanced, already-installed Sherlock Inspection Software, offers a single-point solution with uncompromised design flexibility and integration resources.

The Teledyne Dalsa BOA smart camera has defined a new standard for industrial smart cameras and has made deep penetration into the industrial and factory automation vision markets. Released over a year ago the BOA was supplied with the easy-to-use iNspect Express point and click vision software. Now with a significantly faster hardware engine the BOA Pro offers unsurpassed power and flexibility with Sherlock in a compact, robust smart camera package. The BOA smart camera series is now offered with a range of sensor resolutions, performance grades and software to accommodate the needs of both the application and the user.

The Sherlock embedded software is setup via a local PC connection to BOA using an Ethernet connection. During development, images from the camera are fed directly to the Sherlock GUI and commands from the program are executed directly on the cameras. This methodology optomises the user-design experience while providing an accurate representation of runtime performance.

Once configured for runtime, the Ethernet link can be disconnected or used to communicate with other devices on the factory floor, such as PLCs, Robots and HMIs. In addition to Ethernet, BOA Pro cameras provide direct connections for RS-232 serial, discrete I/O and lamp control. BOA Pro cameras are supported by various hardware and software accessories to simplify factory integration.

About the Sherlock interface: Extensive Library of Instructions, Preprocessors and Advanced Algorithms
Sherlock's wide-ranging capabilities allow users to standarize on a machine vision software interface that can satisfy users' current and future inspection needs. Sherlock provides a comprehensive set of vision tools and functionality that can be deployed across all industries. The software's extensive library of instructions, preprocessors and advanced algorithms can be combined in a flexible programmatic method using point and click to solve from simple tovery demanding tasks. Maximum design flexibility is provided to allow users to customise algorithms, construct scripts and develop operator interfaces.

The Sherlock setup interface to BOA Pro is installed on a PC. During development, images from the camera are fed directly to the Sherlock GUI and commands from the program are executed directly on the camera. This methodology optimizes the user-design experience while providing an accurate representation of runtime performance. A secondary interface is available through a standard web browser for device setup, runtime monitoring and firmware updating.
