New sensor design provides performance competition for CCD cameras
Representing a major step forward in sensor design, the new Jai SP-20000 is the latest technology in high-resolution CMOS cameras.

Part of its noteworthy performance is attributable to a level of image quality well beyond that found in older CMOS-based cameras. The SP-20000 uses 8 transistors per pixel (8T technology) as opposed to most traditional CMOS imagers which feature only 4-6 transistor designs. This advanced pixel technology is utilised by the camera in a variety of ways to make the SP-20000’s image quality suitable for many applications that may not have previously been considered using a CMOS-based camera.

The SP-20000’s high resolution means that large areas can be inspected in a single pass instead of using multiple cameras or moving cameras mechanically. It is suited to applications that demand detailed, high quality images with the highest possible throughput.

Available in both monochrome and colour models, the SP-20000 offers 30 fps at full 20-megapixel resolution (5120 x 3840). The sensor is 41mm diagonally in size and features a global shutter to freeze motion with no artefacts. Both models leverage CMOSIS' 8-transistor (8T) pixel architecture to implement true correlated double sampling (CDS) and so provide outstanding image quality with the highest degree of pixel uniformity. An industry-leading 1:50000 parasitic light rejection ratio minimizes global shutter leakage for clean images with sharp contrast.

Dual Mini Camera Link connectors in a two-cable "full" configuration provide the bandwidth necessary for its high-speed, high resolution output. Power can be supplied through the Camera Link connectors using a dual-channel-powered frame grabber, or can be provided separately to the camera via its 12-pin connector.
