Application note: How to interface Teledyne Dalsa LINEA cameras with Sherlock software

Go to Sherlock software
Go to Teledyne DALSA

Teledyne DALSA have released an easy-to-read application note on how to interface their low-cost LINEA line scan cameras to the Sherlock machine vision application builder.

Linea is a new series of line scan cameras from Teledyne DALSA that leverages their know-how as the leader in line scan technology for the past 15 years .

The Linea series is aimed at cost-sensitive applications but boasts many of the advanced performance features carried by Teledyne Dalsa’s high-end line scan cameras.

When combined with Sherlock (Teledyne Dalsa's premium machine vision application builder), the Linea line scan cameras offer a low-cost, yet powerful solution for vision integrators, that:
• speeds up the application development
• reduces build and commissioning costs
• provides fast deployment to market

This new application note illustrates how to interface LINEA cameras with Sherlock with a step-by-step list of instructions so that it cannot be easier.

It includes instructions on how to interface an encoder and an external trigger to your application. Differential output encoders are strongly recommended in factory environments to increase noise immunity. Differential output refers to the fact that each channel has a complement channel i.e. Channel A and Channel B, and so has the ability to detect and count backward movement that can be caused by motion jitter or backlash.

The application notes describes all wiring connections and all software setup steps from camera detection through to image enhancement.

It describes how to do flat field corrections and how to setup other parameters in the camera via the Sherlock interface in order to optimise the image quality for your specific lighting setup and application needs. It also lists some very useful calculations that can be used to determine object pixel sizes, camera line rates, encoder count rates and more.
