Ricoh manufacture a full compliment of factory automation lenses that includes a number of lens series with differing resolutions. They include the "12M" 12Mpix series, "9M" 9MPix, "5M" and "5MX" 5MPix series, "2M" and "A-2M" 2MPix series, "VG" VGA and "L" linescan series. This editorial specifically features the high performance 5MX series. The 5MX series of lenses boast excellent optical characteristics even at the periphery. The performance of most lenses degrades from the centre of the image where they work optimally, out to the corners where the performance degrades. Not so withthe 5MX series. Resolution, contrast distortion and vignetting in the 5MX series is maintained right to the very edges and corners of the field of view.

Lens manufacturers typically specify the resolution and performance of their lenses at the centre of the image and do not account for the fall-off in performance towards the edges. The Ricoh 5MX series technology provides a performance suited to those applications that require the same quality and performance image across the complete field of view.

The Ricoh 5MX series currenly incudes a number of focal lengths: 8mm, 12mm, 16mm, 25mm and 35mm and suit sensor sizes up to 2/3". They feature locking screws for iris and focus rings, a filter thread on the front and they are designed to fit to C-mount or CS-mount cameras.
