Falcon4-CLHS M2240: New Falcon4 camera offers 1200 fps at 2.8 megapixels

The Falcon4-CLHS M2240 camera by Teledyne Dalsa is designed using a unique and leading industrial sensor from Teledyne e2v. The Falcon4-CLHS M2240, uses a CameraLink HS (CLHS) interface and is designed to excel where high frame rate, high sensitivity and deterministic data delivery for real-time operation is required.

The Falcon4-CLHS M2240 harnesses its power from a Teledyne Dalsa e2v Lince 2.8 MP sensor (only available in monochrome). The Teledyne Dalsa e2v Lince sensor features large 12um x 12um pixels to provide high sensitivity, large full well capacity and high dynamic range in a sensor that fits the APS-C format commonly used in professional photography. It is suited to many if not most lenses that cover the APS-C and larger formats and can be supplied with lens adapters to suit many of the common lens interfaces.

The Falcon4-CLHS M2240 is especially suited to applications where a high degree of measurement accuracy is required in a high dynamic range environment, along with high speed, low latency and a deterministic image delivery time. Teledyne Dalsa only manufacture this camera in monochrome to avoid the degredation in sensitivity, sharpness and accuracy that a colour single bayer sensor camera cannot avoid. A monochrome camera in general produces an image with up to 1.33x higher clarity than the equivalent colour camera.

The CLHS interface requires a frame grabber to be fitted to the computer and delivers image data to host memory with low latency and in a known time using DMA transfer capability built in to the Dalsa frame grabber. Applications that require real-time or in-time analysis benefit greatly by using CLHS and are further benefited by Teledyne Dalsa's T2IR (Trigger-To-Image-Reliability) capability which consists of hardware and software features that provide reliable data transfer with diagnostics.

Combining the Xtium2-CLHS PX8 LC frame grabber with the Falcon4-CLHS M2240 allows users to get the best from the Falcon4. The Xtium2-CLHS PX8 LC frame grabber offers a cost-effective solution for applications that require extremely fast acquisition while not burdening the CPU to allow almost 100% of its use for image processing.

When speed and precision is a premium for your imaging application, the Falcon4-CLHS M2240 is a great choice.
