TurboDrive technology for faster GigE throughput

An innovative speed advantage that pushes data transfer
beyond current GigE ceiling

New technology removes the constraints of GigE
The benefits and convenience of GigE Vision has been somewhat overshadowed by increases in camera speed and resolution to the point where data transfer via GigE hasn't been able to keep up. Teledyne DALSA's solution was to develop and offer their TurboDrive technology.

What does TurboDrive achieve for me?
TurboDrive speeds up data transfers by using a technology that reassembles data from the sensor in a way to optimise throughput and so take full advantage of maximum sensor data rates and the camera's maximum data transfer capability.

Suitable for a select number of Teledyne DALSA cameras and depending on the application, TurboDrive operates at a rate much higher than current GigE throughput, often double, and in some cases, even more. It works by using image-entropy-based encoding to model pixel information with no loss of information. This enables faster data transmission on the link as each pixel is comprised of fewer bits for encoding. The result is higher sustained throughput in a system that can handle data surges without any loss of image data -
the degree of improvement being dependent on the image itself. For example, on an inspection line application, the line and the camera can be run twice as fast (see video) with obvious benefits.

No-loss image quality
TurboDrive does not affect image qualitythe images transmitted to system memory are exactly the same as the images read from the camera sensor, bit-for-bit. There is no loss of image data and no compromise.

No additional hardware
requirements
TurboDrive does not require any hardware or software changes to network or application. However, it is only available on select Teledyne DALSA cameras and requires Teledyne DALSA's free Sapera LT SDK (v8.0 minimum), which includes the GigE driver.

Available now in Teledyne DALSA's Linea cameras
TurboDrive technology is currently available in Teledyne DALSA's Genie NANO and Linea line scan
GigE cameras which allows these GigE models to deliver full image quality at line rates up to 80 kHz—several times faster than competitors—with no changes to a GigE network. Future camera releases will include this technology.
